Position Summary

Oversees the daily kitchen operations and provide support to kitchen staff in delivering high quality food. This position is responsible for coordinating staff and food preparations, monitor inventory and waste management, and maintain safety and sanitation standards. The kitchen lead supports training and development of kitchen staff and works closely with management to maintain a positive, organized and productive kitchen environment. 

Specific Accountabilities

• Food preparations (e.g. chopping vegetables, prepping sauces, portioning products, etc.)

• Food is being prepped and cooked in a timely manner

• Proper usage of kitchen appliances and equipment

• Adhere to all health and safety regulations and protocols (e.g. cleaning floors, garbage disposal, sanitation)

• Preparing an order list and receiving orders on delivery

Under the direction of the Manager, Operations provide overall management, direction, planning, technical training and updating to all aspects of maintenance, project management and day to day lift operations. 

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Direct and control the activities of staff working the lifts to ensure all safety procedures are followed. Establish methods to meet work schedules.  Make suggestions and implement improvements to work processes and procedures. As required, assist in the day to day operations of the lifts and supervision of the operators.

• Assist with the recruitment of new and existing lift staff, oversee staff training and monitor staff performance. Administer and grade lift exams.  Prepare and present yearly performance reviews outlining at a minimum, general performance, for all department staff.

• Maintain and promote staff morale through positive attitudes and social aspects of the Snow Valley working environment.

• As required, assist with the installation of fencing, signage, padding, etc. that is required prior to the opening of the facility and removal after the closing date.

• Be actively involved in improving the operation of on hill equipment as required.

• Adhere to all operational and safety procedures - perform daily lift starts checks and complete daily lift log and incident reports. Keep accurate paperwork and checklists.

• Keep Snow Valley current with the advances in the snow sports industry and attend meetings where other industry colleagues will be present for the sharing of ideas and information.

• Maintain safety and emergency programs and take reasonable precautions to minimize liability situations. Maintain Health & Safety program including Certificate of Recognition, WCB case management, Disability Management Program, Joint Health & Safety committee.

• Minimum 2 years experience with passenger ropeways preferred.

• 2 years of supervisory experience; ideally supervising a large team (20 - 30 team members).

• Lift 150 train the trainer, Lift 151, 152 courses provided by SELKIRK College is an asset 

• Previous operation of snowmobiles and/or ATVs an asset.

• Ski Resort Management certification is considered an asset.

HOURS OF WORK

• This position is fulltime position:  minimum 35 to maximum 44 hours per week.

• Work days will vary and may be on weekdays, weeknights, holidays, or weekends. 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Maintain a constant and efficient flow of guests through the Rental Shop while providing fast, courteous, accurate and friendly service.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Greet customers and assist them with questions, accurately and efficiently provide appropriate rental equipment.

2. Be knowledgeable of every station and move around as required by the line-ups or as told by your supervisor or team leader.

3. Explain the rental waiver and ensure they are accurately filled out and filed.

4. Fit guests with helmets, ski or snowboard boots as well recommend ski or snowboard length and ensure the accurate setting of the bindings.

5. Perform daily housekeeping duties to maintain cleanliness, tidiness and a professional image to our guests. Inform management team if supplies are required.

6. Repair and tune equipment as required. Let supervisors and/or manager with any damaged equipment.

7. Demonstrate equipment to guests. Explain how ski/snowboard bindings work, how to handle ski poles properly.

8. Inspect and maintain rental equipment daily to identify maintenance requirements and losses.

Follow up as required.

9. Inspect all returned equipment for damage and match with the appropriate forms & waivers.

10. Assist guests in solving problems & or complaints. Keep management team informed of guest related problems.

11. Be aware of events, school bookings, corporate and group functions each shift.

12. Provide a safe, uncluttered, litter-free environment.

13. Perform all job duties in a safe manner. Advise management team of any improvements to work processes.

Assist guests in the safe loading and unloading of Snow Valley’s ski lifts, while ensuring safe and efficient operation of equipment. Provide excellent customer service by interacting with all lift passengers.

• Teach fun, student-centered lessons that build confidence and develop students skiing and/or snowboarding abilities. Work with students to achieve their goals.

• Ensure the safety of everyone in the group through proper class management and responsible decisions.

Instructors are required to have and maintain nationally recognized certification (CSIA, PSIC, or CASI) by payment of dues and attendance at recall.  Employee must pass a vulnerable sector police information check.

Ski Patrollers are responsible for on-snow safety at the Snow Valley Ski Club and to respond to situations

that require rescue, medical treatment and if required transportation.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Provide assistance & services in accordance with Snow Valley guidelines.

2. Act as a host: engage guests and interact with them to ensure they have a positive and friendly experience.

3. Handle all inquiries & complaints in a professional & competent manner applying a win-win attitude. Keep Supervisors informed of guest-related problems.

4. Promote skier and rider safety, encourage & enforce the Alpine Responsibility Code through leading by  example at all times.

5. Proactively recognize and inform the Facility Operations Supervisor on duty of any conditions throughout Snow Valley that may pose a threat to the safety and well- being of our guests and staff.

6. Recognize and report potential lift problems.

7. Work closely and constructively with other members of the Ski Patrol team.

8. Act as a liaison with Operations Management for Workplace Health & Safety Issues. Contribute ideas to Operations Management for improvements or changes to the Patrolling system and the procedures.

9. Be proficient in maintaining a high-level of lift evacuation (high anglerescue) and toboggan handling skills. Including planning and organizing the high angle rescue.

10.Assist in maintaining a neat appearance of Snow Valley grounds in general to maintain cleanliness, tidiness and a professional image to our guests. Generally provide a safe, uncluttered, litter-free environment.

11. Assist Lift Operators to perform daily housekeeping duties including placing/removing fences, establishing & maintaining ramps in load/unload areas, setting up maze area, and placing/removing signs.

12. Coordinate with the Shift Leader to ensure daily duties are fulfilled.

13. Maintain an inventory of the medical services equipment and make arrangements for pick up to ensure inventory is up to date.

14. Maintain first aid cabinet supplies in accordance to Workplace Health & Safety & Snow Valley policies.

15. Perform line control and check guests’ lift passes for validity at the lift lines. Inform MOD and/or Operations Supervisors of any guests breaking rules or using facility without a valid pass and assist in dealing with any offenders.

16. Ensure the Patrol team on duty is spread out and covering as much of the hill as possible at all times – Patrollers must not congregate in a single group.

17. Be aware of promotional & special events, school bookings, corporate & group functions in order to help direct guests & staff for these events.

18. Maintain certification to stay current & up to date for emergency medical services.

19. Act in a responsible manner while representing Snow Valley, abide by, and adhere to the policies.

This is an outdoors, all weather position - must enjoy working outdoors during inclement weather conditions. Working hours may be limited during slow periods resulting from lack of patrons or inclement weather. 

Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a frequent basis and 50 to 75 pounds on an occasional basis. Ski Patrollers must be able to safely ski or snowboard with a rescue toboggan weighing at least 200 pounds.

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The position requires an advanced level skier or snowboarder. He/She must have either a current Advanced or Immediate Alberta OHS approved First Aid and level C CPR certificate. Successfully passing a ski or snowboard test is required. An approved Vulnerable Sector check is required.

Prepare and cook food in a high quality, consistent and timely manner while maintaining a clean and safe environment.

This position is through Mid-October with the potential for employment during the winter season.

·         Setting up and stocking stations with all necessary supplies

·         Prepare and cook assigned dishes based on event sheet requirements

·         Ensure that food comes out in a timely manner

·         Assist with dishwashing and maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment and work areas and floors

o   Other tasks includes sweeping and mopping floors, changing garbage bags, putting away cookware and serving ware, etc.

·         Stock and maintain inventory as required. Ensure the First In First Out procedure is followed

·         Demonstrate a clean, positive and professional presence with team members and assist guests in a courteous and helpful manner
